Srikalahasti temple in Rajagopuram crashed on yesterday (because of government )

500 years old Rajagopuram built by the Vijayanagara emperor Sri Krishna Devaraya in Srikalahasti temple collapsed late on Wednesday evening, creating panic among the local. Main temple at Srikalahasti was not affected by the collapse of the 135-feet gopuram. Witnesses said a huge structure from the top of the gopuram fell on the ground with a huge thud at 8.05 pm. Within a minute the whole structure collapsed and turned into a pile of rubble.
Though local people said they saw two security guards sitting under the gopuram, it is not certain whether there has been loss of life. Two women last seen in the spot were yet to return home. There are also reports that more than 200 monkeys could have been buried in the debris.
Nearby shopkeepers had noticed a huge crack extending from the bottom to the top of the gopuram during the last three days. It is believed that the rains that followed Cyclone Laila further weakened its structure. Terming the collapse a bad omen, women all over the town two lamps (pramidhas) in front of their houses. Some agama pundits seconded the view. But for most of the populace, the collapse of the gopuram was more of a sad event. At a time when the entire state is celebrating the 500th coronation year of the emperor, his dream structure has been dashed to pieces.

Police officials are failing to keep a watch on internet cafes

Police officials are failing to keep a watch on internet cafes which have become centres for anti- social and anti-national activities.
There is no supervision or control over the numerous cyber cafes across the district. Around 100 internet centres function in Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Bodhan, Armoor, Banswada, Yellareddy towns and in rural areas. Following the arrest of Lashkar-e-Tayyaba operative Zia Ul Haq in Hyderabad, the extent of the use of internet by terrorists came to light.
Nizamabad district has been identified as a terrorist-affected area with several offences committed in the district for some time.
Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) activities were reported in Bodhan, Nizamabad and Navipet areas of the district.
The encounter of terrorist Azam Ghori in neighboring Jagtial of Karimnagar district, the arrest of Ashiq Ali, another terrorist near Sarangapur in Nizamabad mandal, indicated this. The role of terrorists is suspected in serial stabbing cases in Kamareddy town three years ago.
Owners of cyber cafes are providing fully covered cabins for users without verifying their identity proof, facilitating misuse of internet for browsing pornographic sites and communicating with terrorist elements.
Bodhan DSP B. Srinivas Reddy said that they had raided internet centres earlier to prevent any illegal activities.
There was no chance for anti-social activities in those centres, he said.
“We are frequently verifying the licences of cyber cafes as well as computer training institutes,” he explained. The police said they were also asking the owners to check the identity of internet users.

Brain-mapping, Polygraph and Narco-analysis tests in suspects declared as “illegal”- Supreme Court

The Supreme Court today declared as “illegal” use of narco-analysis, brain-mapping and polygraph tests on suspects. No individual can be forced and subjected to such techniques involuntarily, and by doing so it amounts to unwarranted intrusion of personal liberty. The court said that involuntarily subjecting an accused, a suspect or a witness to such techniques violates Article 20 (3) of the Constitution, which prohibits self-incrimination. Further, forcing an individual to such methods of investigation violates the scheme of legal process, it said, adding that even if a person is subjected to such a mode of investigation on consent, the result of the test cannot be an admissible piece of evidence. The bench, also comprising Justices R. V. Raveendran and Dalveer Bhandari, said if anything obtained by the investigators from such techniques in which a person had volunteered, the agencies can use them for further probe.

Pak is trying to help Kasab: Malik

Pakistan has said that it will examine the issue of providing assistance to Ajmal Kasab, convicted by an Indian court for involvement in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, only if he seeks its help.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday told reporters that the Pakistan government will react to the conviction of Kasab only after the Indian court's detailed judgment is made public.
He made the remarks hours after a special court in Mumbai found Kasab, the lone terrorist arrested during the attacks, guilty of murder and waging war against India. Kasab was convicted on most of the 86 charges against him and faces the death penalty.
Asked by reporters if the Pakistan government will provide aid to Kasab, Malik said authorities would act within the provisions of law.
"If someone wants or applies (for assistance), we will examine it. If he doesn't apply, then we will not examine it," he said. "Help is given to those who ask for it. If you ask (me), a terrorist is a terrorist," Malik added.
Referring to the trial of seven suspects arrested by Pakistani authorities for alleged involvement in the Mumbai attacks, Malik said the First Information Report against these persons was filed on the basis of Kasab's statement. "Our court will want that the person who recorded Kasab's statement should come (to Pakistan) to testify," he said.
The Pakistan government recently sought formal access to Kasab to facilitate the trial of the seven suspects, including Lashker-e-Tayyaba commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.
Malik also there was credible information about the death of Hakimullah Mehsud, the chief of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. However, the government cannot conduct a DNA test to prove the death of Hakimullah as it did not possess his body, he said.
Hakimullah claimed in new video posted on the internet on Tuesday that he was alive and well. He also warned that his fighters would carry out attacks on major cities in the US within a month to avenge the killing of top Taliban leaders like Baithullah Mehsud.
Reports earlier this year had said that Hakimullah was killed in a US drone attack in Pakistan's tribal belt in January. Malik further said: "Terrorists are not Muslims. They are rather infidels. The operation against militants will continue till the last militant is killed or captured."

IIT-JEE 2010,Students want to write a fresh Exam

IIT directors on Sunday announced they will take “corrective measures” regarding the typographical errors and wrong instructions in question papers in this year’s IIT-JEE. But this has not appeased students, and the demand for cancelling the IIT-JEE and conducting a fresh exam is gaining momentum.
The “corrective measures” evoked sharp criticism from students and teachers as they failed to address the real issues that would damage the prospects of merit students getting selected to premier IITs. “The directors of seven old IITs have ignored the biggest error that they made in Section II of Paper-I and Section-IV of Paper-II. In these sections, any student can easily score around 93 marks by darkening all the circles to answer particular questions as there was no negative marking for wrong answers,” said Mr M.V. Ramana Rao, a IIT-JEE trainer.
Nearly 50,000 students from the state appeared for IIT-JEE 2010 out of a total of about 4.72 lakh who took the exam across the country. Students from AP have been bagging a major chunk of seats for the last five years.
“The real issue is that candidates wasted valuable time due to the mistakes in the question papers. This issue has not been addressed,” said Mr Raghunath, senior IIT-JEE faculty at the Narayana group.
Students who took the exam in Hindi said they took six questions lightly as these questions were wrongly shown as carrying three marks each when actually they were worth eight marks each.
“Though the corrective measures stated that they will be evaluated for eight marks, it will be useful for only those who attempted these questions. Several of my friends ignored them as they felt that it was not worth spending time just to gain three marks. Instead, they focused on questions which carried more marks. How will the corrective measures do justice to such students?” asked Mr Vikas Agarwal, an IIT aspirant.
“The corrective measures announced will do no justice to the affected candidates. There is no other solution except to conduct a fresh exam,” said Mr Anand Krishna, a parent, who is planning to file a legal case against IIT-Madras, which conducted the IIT-JEE.

RDUKT IIT Application | RDUKT IITOnline Application

26th Apr, 2010: Chief Minister K Rosaiah, today, justified the slashing of 3,000 IIIT (Indian Institute of Information Technology) seats, saying that the goverment had to take matters of insufficient accommodation, infrastructure to be built and the level of academic clearance into consideration before reaching the conclusion. The decision was taken by the entire cabinet in general, he stated.

The CM was in Anantapur for the second day today, taking part in the Prajapatham programme there.

Funded by the government, the IIIT seats prove invaluable to rural students who are usually deprived of opportunities for technical education. Reduction of seats by 3,000 out of the existing 6,000 in the 3 IIITs of the state - located at Nuzvid, Idupulapaya and Basara - threatens to further hit the opportunities basket of students from rural backgrounds.

These IIITs are part of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) collection of institutes set up in 2008. They are autonomous, fully residential, and specialize in Information Technology. Each student pays Rs. 6,000 per annum for the 6-year integrated program, and the government bears the rest of the Rs. 1.5 lakh tution fees for every student, also providing a free laptop.

The government had invested Rs. 900 crore into the institutes in the first year of operation in 2008. In 2009, while the government budgeted for Rs. 600 crore, it only disbursed Rs. 240 crore in reality. This year, the allocation has been further reduced to Rs. 100 crore.

Mutually beneficial economic inter-linkages between India and Bhutan have been an important element in our bilateral relations. India continues to be the largest trade and development partner of Bhutan. Planned development efforts in Bhutan began in the early 1960s. The First Five Year Plan (FYP) of Bhutan was launched in 1961. Since then, India has been extending financial assistance to Bhutan’s FYPs. So far, nine Five Year Plans of Bhutan have been completed. Some of the major projects in Bhutan carried out with Indian assistance in the past include 1020 MW Tala Hydroelectric Project, 336 MW Chukha Hydroelectric Project, 60 MW Kurichhu Hydroelectric Project, Penden Cement Plant, Paro Airport, Bhutan Broadcasting Station, Major Highways, Electricity Transmission and Distribution System, Indo-Bhutan Microwave Link, Exploration of Mineral Resources, and Survey and Mapping. GOI assistance to Ninth Five Year Plan (2002-08) of Bhutan was Rs. 2610.14 crore. This included Rs 907 crore for project tied assistance, Rs 820 crore as Programme grant and rest as various refunds and subsidies. Major GoI assisted projects completed in the Ninth Plan include 350 bedded JDWNR Hospital in Thimphu, Regional Referral Hospital in Mongar, Phase I of double-laning of Thimphu-Phuentsholing road, double laning of Paro-Chuzom road, construction of 10 new schools, 306 low income housing units, Renovation of Semtokha Dzong, two Youth Centres, RENEW Centre, Human Resource Development, Telecommunications and projects in agriculture and allied sectors. GoI also funded feasibility studies for establishing rail linkages between border towns of India and Bhutan. The Government of India committed assistance worth Rs. 3400 crores during the 10th FYP. During his address to the Joint Session of the Bhutanese Parliament in May 2008, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh informed that the total bilateral economic engagement with Bhutan over the next five years to be of the order of Rs./ Nu. 100 billion. Some of the important projects being executed under the 10th Plan include construction of Supreme Court, strengthening of Constitutional Officers such as Royal Audit Authority, Election Commission, anti-Corruption Commission and Attorney General, renovation of major Dzongs, preparation of DPRs for major power projects, widening of major roads, scholarships and expansion of tertiary educational institutions. The regular Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) meetings and Plan Talks comprising concerned GoI and RGoB members are held regularly to monitor implementation of various projects. In addition to the GOI assistance mentioned in the above para, GOI also provides support to Bhutan to develop various other developmental projects known as mega projects due to their size. Bilateral cooperation in the hydropower sector has been carried forward with the formal inauguration of the 60 MW Kurichhu Hydroelectric project in April 2006, and commissioning of the 170 MW first unit of 1020 TALA Hydroelectric Project in July 2006. All six units have been commissioned by end March 2007. GOI has agreed to provide assistance to Bhutan in developing the hydropower sector and to purchase at least 10,000 MW of power from Bhutan by 2020. For the purpose ten hydropower projects have been agreed during the first Empowered Joint Group (EJG) Meeting held in Delhi in March 2009. The agreement for preparation/ updation of DPRs the Amochhu Reservoir Hydroelectric Project (HEP), the Kuri Gongri HEP, the Chamkharchhu-I HEP and the Kholongchhu HEP have been signed. For other 3 projects (Sunkosh Reservoir, Wangchu Reservoir and Bunakha Reservoir), these are in advance stages of completion. GOI is also committed to the establishment of a 1 million tonne cement project, Dungsum Cement Plant at Nganglam. During his visit to Bhutan Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh announced the construction of the first ever rail link between India and Bhutan, connecting Hashimara to Phuentsholing, called the “Golden Jubilee Rail Line”. The technical studies on the alignment of the rail line have started. GoI has extended a standby credit facility of Rs 300 crores to RGoB in March 2009 to help Bhutan overcome rupee liquidity crunch. This facility will be extended automatically for 6 months each time and will remain in force for 60 months from the date of first withdrawal.
    Trade with India
India is not only Bhutan's main development partner but also its leading trade partner. A free trade regime exists between India and Bhutan. The India-Bhutan Trade and Commerce Agreement which expired in March 2005, has been renewed for a period of 10 years. Currently, the major items of exports from Bhutan to India are electricity (from Tala, Chukha and Kurichhu Hydroelectric Project), cement, timber and wood products, minerals, cardamom, fruit products, potatoes, oranges and apples, raw silk and alcoholic beverages. Major exports from India to Bhutan are petroleum products, rice, automobiles & spares, machinery and fabrics. The Agreement on Trade and Commerce also provides for duty free transit of Bhutanese merchandise for trade with third countries. Sixteen exit/entry points in India identified in the Protocol for Bhutan's third country trade are: Jaigaon, Chamurchi, Ulta Pani, Hathisar (Gelephu), Darranga, Kolkata, Haldia, Dhubri, Raxaul, Panitanki, Changrabandh, Phulbari, Dawki, New Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai. Of these, Kolkata, Haldia, Mumbai and Chennai are the designated seaports, Dhubri is the riverine route, New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata are the air routes and Raxaul is the rail route. Twenty20 World Cup 2009 | 20-20 world cup 2010

Not so long ago if one wanted to see a great 5 over spell; a stint at defensive batting or ‘ridiculous’ hitting, the normal wait time was 5 days – A few ball changes and a 500/4 score. Not anymore. T20 has revolutionised cricket and how?

The ICC World Twenty20 2009 is the second world event of this format. Started in England to bring in the traditional cricket spectator, T20 has outreached and got in people whose induction into cricket has begun with T20.

The first ICC World Twenty20 competition was held in the rainbow nation of South Africa in 2007. England is hosting the event this year and West Indies has the honour for 2010.

Cricket, now has two world cups – The 50 over (ICC world cup) and the T20 version (ICC world T20).

Rule changes have also contributed immensely to the rising popularity of Twenty Twenty Cricket. The free hit which was later imbibed into the 50 over format as well has been an unqualified success. The dug-outs provide a high- adrenaline rush to not only the viewers but the players as well. The danger of the batsman being timed-out has resulted in unparalleled pace. There is no slouching around and unnecessary water and rest breaks. Some critics had in fact termed the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 ‘boring’ in comparison to the ICC T20 World Cup.

The ICC World Twenty20 2009 will be an event to behold and admire. Will India be able to retain its title? Would England come out of the Ashes to win an important trophy and that too at home? And what about Australia?

This is your last chance to exclusively live through Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes; Dinesh Karthik’s spectacular catch to dismiss Graeme Smith; Gauti’s dynamic batting; Joginder Sharma’s bowling; Sreesanth’s final catch; India winning her first match 3-0; Rohit Sharma’s last ball sixes; Robin Uthappa’s high pressure performance; Harbhajan Singh’s bhangra; Yuvi’s celebration with the wicket stick after defeating Australia; Yusuf’s six and MSD gifting his India shirt to the young boy. ICC World Twenty20 2009 will provide its fair share of such moments and you will be happily going gaga over a problem of plenty.

The ICC world Twenty20 2009 provides a great chance for MS Dhoni’s India to do what Australia did consistently: Retain a world title.

T20 cricket | T20 cricket World Cup live in star cricket

T20 cricket World Cup Tomorrow(3-5-2010).....
India will need to ensure a flying start in the T20 cricket World Cup here on Afghanistan Saturday.Skipper Dhoni has warned his team mates to underestimate Afghanistan. Considering that a win tomorrow can anchor their Super Eights slat, India are expected to have their best men on the park. Murali Vijay may make his debut, it is unlikely they would blood R Vinay Kumar, who though could be handy on this slow-paced deck. Indian top-order has been fortified with the presence of Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina. Down the order, there is Yusuf Pathan, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Ravindra Jadeja down the order.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, has already rang a warning bell, saying they have some tricks up their sleeves and were capable of surprising the Indians at the Beausejour Cricket Ground tomorrow.
Teams:
Afghanistan: Nawroz Mangal (C), Mohammad Nabi, Karim Sadiq, Mirwais Ashraf, Rais Ahmadzai, Dawlat Ahmadzai, Mohammad Shahzad, Hamid Hassan, Samiullah Shinwari, Noor Ali, Asghar Stanikzai, Shahpoor Zadran, Shabir Noori, Sayed Nasrat, Shafiq Shafaq.
India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (C), Murali Vijay, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Vinay Kumar, Rohit Sharma.
