Airports that have been affected by a cloud of ash from an erupting volcano in Iceland. As Europe grounded most flights for a fourth day on Sunday because of a volcanic ash cloud spreading from Iceland, increasingly desperate airlines ran test flights to show that flying was safe and pressed aviation authorities to loosen the flight ban.
Travel disruptions also reached New York City over the weekend, as airports and hotels filled with weary, unsettled and irritated passengers, and the Tribeca Film Festival scrambled to cope with stranded participants.
